Abstract

A new model, combining intermittency and sawtooth chaotic maps, is presented for aggregate packet traffic streams. The intermittency map models the ON-OFF activity of the aggregate process, and the sawtooth map models the batch size when active. Results show that the model accurately reflects the impact of long range dependent traffic behaviour on queueing performance, while reducing the computational burden for simulation.
