Abstract

A set of experiments on bubbling in a vertical column have been carried out to study its dynamical behavior. Fluctuations in the volume fraction of the fluid were indirectly measured as a time series. Time-delay coordinates were used to reconstruct the underlying attractor. The characterization of such an attractor was carried out via Lyapunov exponents, a Poincaré map and spectral analysis. The dynamical behavior of gas-liquid bubbling flow was interpreted in terms of the interactions between bubbles.
