Abstract

As the population of the Los Angeles metropolitan area becomes increasingly diverse, the resultant cultural dynamic and concomitant restructuring are reflected in changing religious landscapes. Change is expressed in the creation of entirely new sacred places; appropriation of extant structures through adaptive reuse; public celebration of previously restricted religious events; reconfiguration of established Christian institutions in light of altered social realities; and, generation of a new breed of market oriented, full-service “mega-churches.”
