Abstract

Objective To observe the changes of haemodynamic parameters of the central retinal vessels in patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR). Methods Prospective observational case-control study. The data of 117 eyes of 66 diabetic patients without DR, 181 eyes of 98 patients with DR, and 136 eyes of 68 cases with senile cataract or ametropia were analyzed. Results The differences were significant in diameter (P=0.000) and blood velocity (P=0.000) of the central retinal artery, blood velocity of the central retinal vein (P=0.000), pulsatility index (P=0.025), and resistivity index (P=0.0007) among the three groups. Conclusion There are changes of haemodynamic parameters of the central retinal vessels in diabetic and DR patients. The central retinal vessels may play a role in the pathogenesis of DR.
