Abstract

Young thalli of Allomyces macrogynus were induced to develop small zoosporangia that released one to three zoospores. In the majority of thalli examined in this study, the number of nuclei per thallus increased after induction of sporogenesis, but, decreased before discharge of zoospores. The significance of the decrease in nuclear number during sporogenesis is discussed in relation to the formation of uniformly sized zoospores.
