Abstract

Objective To explore the level of plasma adiponectin, leptin level in elderly patients with bacterial pneumonia and its correlation with procalcitonin (PCT), C-reactive protein (CRP) and pneumonia severity index (PSI). Methods 32 patients with severe pneumonia (SP group), 30 patients with non-severe pneumonia (NSP group), and 30 patients without pneumonia (healthy control) were included into this study. The levels of adiponectin, leptin, PCT and CRP were detected, and PSI was performed. Results Compared with the healthy control group, the levels of adiponectin in NSP and SP group decreased significantly, the lowest was in SP group; The levels of leptin in NSP and SP group were increased, the highest was in SP group. The levels of adiponectin had positive correlation with PCT, CRP and PSI (r=-0.376、-0.397、-0.410, P<0.05或<0.01), but the levels of leptin had negative correlation with PCT, CRP and PSI (r=0.677、0.353、0.256, P<0.05 or<0.01). Conclusions As an index, adiponectin and leptin can reflect the severity of the infection. The level of adiponectin and leptin can evaluate the severity of elderly patients with bacterial pneumonia. Key words: Adiponectin; Leptin; Elderly; Bacterial pneumonia
