Abstract

On DECEMBER 31, 2015, Dr. Amitava Chatterjee will retire as the Editor-in-Chief (EiC) of the IEEE ELECTRON DEVICE LETTERS (EDL). Under Amitava’s leadership, EDL continued to be the premier publication for rapid dissemination of the most important and significant advances in electron devices and related technologies, and has been one of the best-run IEEE journals. Over the last several years, I had the opportunity to closely work with Amitava and witnessed his critical contributions in initiating and implementing measures to improve the paper quality, the influence, the review, editing and publishing process for EDL. In 2015, EDL achieved a key milestone: the average time from manuscript submission to e-publication was improved to less than 5 weeks, which is the fastest among all the IEEE journals. EDL continues to be one of the most downloaded Letters publication in IEEE Xplore with more than a half million downloads annually. On behalf of the IEEE Electron Devices Society (EDS), the authors and the readers of EDL, the EDL Editorial Board, and the EDS Editorial Office, I would like to thank Amitava for his accomplishments made during his four-year tenure as the EiC of EDL.
