Abstract

In 2010 a U.S. based, private, research university that had no business school established an executive MBA program with a highly ranked European business school with the express purpose of seamlessly blending liberal arts into a traditional MBA curriculum. Through a case analysis we theoretically frame this effort to blend liberal arts and management as a quest for legitimacy. This analysis focuses on one critical stakeholder group, faculty, and considers strategic actions taken to address their legitimacy concerns.
