Abstract
Retirement Plans (RP) mitigates hardship and frustration faced by would-be retirees. Ineffective retirement planning among Nigerian civil servants is one of the leading causes of severe hardship, frustration, and even premature death after retirement. Previous studies on pension issues have not paid adequate attention to RP. Voluntary Social Action and Exchange theories provided the framework, while cross-sectional survey design was adopted. Data were gathered using both quantitative and qualitative methods. Poor salary, inadequate financial knowledge, lack of entrepreneurial skills, and social burdens were challenges identified by civil servants in Kaduna state as hampering their RP. This study was therefore to investigate the challenges associated with retirement planning among civil servants in the Kaduna Metropolis
