Abstract

Over the last ten or more years, on-line quality control procedures have attracted many researchers in statistical quality control. Taguchi's on-line control procedure has been a major source for this resurgence of interest. In particular, the average cost rate function which combines the inspection cost, adjustment cost and loss due to the deviations from the target value and the simple formulas for the optimal inspection interval and control limit have stimulated many interesting discussions and researches. In this paper, we shall first introduce Taguchi's on-line control procedure with measurements by variables and by attributes. Then, we shall present contributions made by the authors in several aspects which either improve Taguchi's procedure and the corresponding formulas or generalize the models and loss functions. These results are illustrated with several typical examples.
