Abstract
In this paper, the Taguchi et al. (1989) approximation of the long run average cost rate for the on-line quality control procedure is re-examined. It is shown that some minor corrections lead to a significant improvement while retaining the simplicity of the solution as compared to the approximation given by Srivastava and Wu (1991). The effect of the measurement error is also studied under a random walk model.
