Abstract

Sheep present with signs ranging from mild to severe. In mild cases the signs are limited to subtle gait abnormalities with occasional stumbling when trotting.At rest, sheep often stand with a wide-based stance in the pelvic limbs (Fig. 1). More advanced cases will be noticeably ataxic on the pelvic limbs and may sway or stumble when turning. When forced to trot, dysmetria of the thoracic limbs is obvious, with sheep often throwing the limbs out in an exaggerated goose-stepping fashion.
