Centennial Anniversary of the March First Independence Movement and Role of Local Public Government Museum - Focusing on Yeoju Museum’s Case -

Abstract

2019년은 3·1운동 100주년을 맞이하여 3·1운동의 역사를 정리하고 기억하는 시간이었다. 여러 박물관들이 전시를 통해 3·1운동의 역사를 국민에게 알리고자 노력하였다. 기초지자체 공립박물관들도 대중의 관심도가 떨어지는 지역 3·1운동 역사에 대한 연구와 전시를 통해 지역 3·1운동을 지역민들에게 알리고자 하였다. 그러나 기초자제체 공립박물관의 학예연구 인력의 부족과 전시에 집중할 수 없는 업무환경, 근대사 부분 전공 학예연구 인력의 미비로 인한 전시 주제에 대한 접근의 어려움은 지역 3·1운동 관련 전시를 수행하기 어렵게 하는 요소이다. 그런 이유로 소수의 기초지자체 공립박물관만이 지역 3·1운동 관련 전시를 수행할 수 있었다. 경기도 기초지자체 공립박물관 중 지역 3·1운동 전시를 수행해 낸 여주박물관의 사례를 통해 지역 3·1운동을 기념하고 전시하기 위해 어떠한 과정을 거쳤는지를 이 글에서 검토해 보았다. 여주박물관은 지역 3·1운동에 대한 자료 확보 등을 통해 3·1운동 역사를 정리하여 관련 연구를 새롭게 진행하였다. 이후 연구된 성과는 전시를 통해 지역민과 관람객들에게 여주 3·1운동을 알릴 수 있었다. 그리고 전시내용을 교육·체험·심화강좌·현장 답사 프로그램 활용하여 지역민과 관람객에게 전시내용의 내재화를 추구하였다. 전시와 일련의 프로그램을 통해 지역민들과 관람객들이 기존에 알지 못했던 여주 3·1운동에 대해 관심을 갖게 되었고, 이를 우리지역의 역사 나아가 나와 관련된 역사로 인식하게 되었다는 점이 이번 전시의 의의이다. 이번 3·1운동 100주년 기념전시는 지역 3·1운동을 정리하고 이를 보여주는 과정에서 기초지자체 박물관의 역량을 향상 시킬 수 있는 기회였다. 나아가 기초지자체 공립박물관이 지역 근현대사 자료를 수집·연구하여 전시를 통해 이를 지역민에게 전달할 수 있는 역량을 쌓는다면, 지역사회가 요구하는 박물관으로서의 역할을 할 수 있을 것이다.2019 was time to remember and organize the history of March First Independence Movement which was the hundredth anniversary. Local public government museums were also tried to let residents know the local March First Independence Movement which was indifferent. Local public government museum’s research manpower shortage, inaccessibleness of exhibitions topic and working environment which was could not concentrate on exhibitions was in trouble holding local March First Independence M ovement exhibit oins. Accordingly, a f ew l ocal p ublic government museums could hold a local March First Independence Movement exhibition. Yeoju Museum is one of the Gyeonggi province local public museums that could hold a local March First Independence Movement exhibition. Focusing on Yeoju Museum’s exhibition case, we could review the process of how local public museums remember a nd e xhibit local M arch F irst Independence Movement in this article. Yeoju Museum newly researched history of local March First Independence Movement through securing March First Independence Movement history materials of Yeoju. After this research, Yeoju Museum could newly let people know Yeoju March First Independence Movement through a special exhibition. Moreover, Yeoju Museum pursued the internalization of exhibition contents for residents and audiences by utilizing educations, experiences, deepen lectures, explore sites. Residents and audience become interested in Yeoju March First Independence Movement through a special exhibition and many programs are the importance of this exhibition. This March First Independence Movement exhibition is a chance to improve local public museum’s capability through organizing and exhibiting local March First Independence Movement. Furthermore, if local public museums could accumulate the capability to collect and research local modern history materials, local public museums will do a role that local community demands.
