Abstract
ABSTRACT Bhavani Shankar Sahu is an Associate Professor at the National Brain Research Centre (NBRC) in Manesar, India. He completed his PhD in cell biology and molecular genetics at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, studying links between neuroendocrine function and metabolic disease. Inspired to better understand fundamental mechanisms of neuropeptide secretion, he then completed postdoctoral research in Prof. Margaret Robinson's lab at the University of Cambridge, UK and with Prof. Alessandro Bartolomucci at the University of Minnesota and University of California San Diego, USA. In 2019, he returned to India to start his own lab at the NBRC, where he and his team investigate the biology of exocytosis in neurons and neuroendocrine cells from the molecular to the physiological level. We spoke with Bhavani over Zoom about his career journey, mentorship philosophy and enthusiasm for science outreach.
