Abstract

This chapter discusses the celiprolol hydrochloride. Celiprolol hydrochloride is a highly cardio selective beta-adrenergic blocker with partial β 2 agonist activity (vasodilating) but no quinidine-like membrane stabilizing activity. Its high degree of selectivity does not change throughout the full dose range. Once-daily administration of celiprolol hydrochloride produces reductions in blood pressure. Celiprolol hydrochloride is equal to other β -blockers in controlling blood pressure and heart rate increases during exercise. It is comparable or superior to other β -blockers and calcium channel blockers in angina. Celiprolol hydrochloride is not intended to be used in patients with asthma. Celiprolol hydrochloride has gained a wide acceptance as a safe and efficacious β -blocker since its introduction in pharmaceutical formulations.
