Abstract
CD-ROM technology has been regarded as an exciting new tool by students who have access to it. It is not known how students learn to search effectively, and what limits to set for its use. A quantitative study was undertaken at James Cook University Library to find out how students and staff made use of CD-ROM to locate information. Researchers felt that a half-hour limit on search time, accompanied by support from a variety of teaching tools and programs, was an effective method of monitoring the service.
