Abstract

Ultrasonic cavitation tests were performed in a polymer solution and water. Polymer effects on cavitation damage and noise spectra are presented. Under the condition for low amplitude, a polymer additive reduces cavitation damage. Damage patterns and cavitation clouds in the polymer solution differ significantly from those in water. Sound pressure levels of cavitation noise in the high frequency range in the polymer solution were large compared to those obtained in water. An increase in noise level may be attributable to polymer viscoelasticity.
