Abstract
Abstract Ectrin ear tags were attached to 2 herds of beef cattle at VPIASU, Blacksburg, VA. Each group consisted of 30 cows with calves. The cows in herd #1 were tagged in 1 ear on Jun 30 and those in herd #2 were tagged in 1 ear on Jul 28. A third untreated herd consisting of 28 mixed breed cows served as control. The herds were located at least 2 miles apart from each other. At weekly intervals 10 head were selected at random from each herd between 2-5 pm. Face flies were counted on the entire face and horn flies on both sides of each animal.
