Abstract

This paper presents a review of developments in Credit Accumulation and Transfer Schemes (CATS), drawing attention to the ways in which such schemes bring education and training providers together. The authors examine current trends in education and training in Britain which aim to meet the changing needs of the labour market. The authors point out several common threads in contemporary developments in education and training, but conclude there is an urgent need for various ‘piecemeal’ initiatives to be linked in a coherent way.
