Abstract

The cationic polymerization of the phenyl isocynate and 2,4-toluene diisocyanate, and their copolymerization with MMA and styrene in the presence of titanium tetrachloride are studied. In these processes the CO bond of the isocyanate groups participates in formation of the acetal chain structure. In the case of the phenyl isocyanate-styrene pair r1 (styrene) = 0·5, r2 (phenyl isocyanate) = 0·1m and styrene is the more active monomer. In the case of phenyl isocyanate-MMA r1(MMA) = 0·8, r2 (phenyl isocyanate) = 0·95. Under the same conditions aromatic diisocyanates from linear homo- and copolymers containing free isocyanate groups.
