Abstract
The cationic polymerization of the phenyl isocynate and 2,4-toluene diisocyanate, and their copolymerization with MMA and styrene in the presence of titanium tetrachloride are studied. In these processes the CO bond of the isocyanate groups participates in formation of the acetal chain structure. In the case of the phenyl isocyanate-styrene pair r1 (styrene) = 0·5, r2 (phenyl isocyanate) = 0·1m and styrene is the more active monomer. In the case of phenyl isocyanate-MMA r1(MMA) = 0·8, r2 (phenyl isocyanate) = 0·95. Under the same conditions aromatic diisocyanates from linear homo- and copolymers containing free isocyanate groups.
