Abstract
The title compound, ([Cu(C 10 H 8 N 2 )(H 2 O)](C 8 H 4 O 4 ) 0.5 -H 2 O} n , has been synthesized hydrothermally and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound consists of nearly linear one-dimensional chains of [Cu(4,4'-bipy)(H 2 O)] n+ n cations (4,4'-bipy is 4,4'-bipyridyl), surrounded by isophthalate anions and free water molecules. Hydrogen-bonding interactions involving cationic chains, isophthalate anions and free water molecules lead to the formation of a three-dimensional network structure.
