Abstract

This research was written under the title )Castle of Cannes - Khaftizkan - in Shahrzor in the middle Ages(. It aims to clarify the history of the castle and determine its geographical location. The importance of the research lies in shedding light on an archaeological fortress, in an important historical stage and in a historical area, which is the Shahrzur area located in the Kurdistan Region. In addition, he did not write any academic research on the Khfetiz Citadel before. In early sources, this fortress was mentioned by several different names, such as “Kheftizkan”, “Agendakan” and “Kheftian” castles. Based on the information in written sources about the name, geographical location, history and composition of the castle, then compare the information with the existing architectural remains of Cannes Castle. Part of the research is a field visit to the archaeological remains of the castle, with the aim of verifying their architectural characteristics, geographical location, architectural maps and materials used in the castle. Compare the information contained in the historical sources with the remains and historical evidence left in the castle. In conclusion, the research reached several results, including: The archaeological and engineering remains of the Kan castle within the limits of the )Chamchamal( administration near the village of )Kopteba( belong to the )Khaftizkan( castle mentioned in the historical sources that the castle was located in Shahrazur in the Middle Ages, during the reign of )Prince Surkhaby, son of Prince Badri Al-Hasnawi(.
