INTRODUCTIONApoptotic cell suicide, or programmed cell death,is a fundamentally important biological process thatis required to maintain the integrity and homeosta-sis of multicellular organisms. Inappropriate apop-tosis, however, underlies the etiology of many humandiseases, including neurodegenerative disorders,autoimmunity, and cancer.
