Abstract

The High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) technology is considered as one of the most suitable solutions for bulky and long-distance power transmission. However, the state-of-the-art HVDC solutions have certain limitations. This paper presents an overview of current HVDC technologies. More importantly, a high power transmission technology based on cascaded H7 Current Source Converters (CSC) is proposed. The proposed system features classic CSC HVDC characteristics combined with superior efficiency characteristics. Control and operational schemes are presented. In addition, fault issues for the HVDC system are analyzed. Simulation and experimental results are provided to verify the proposal.
