Abstract

This study examines the role that telecommunication exerted in Brazilian history, in special in the formulation of the national identity. Being based on action-network theory (ANT) and on the cognitive theory, it enhances the theoretical intuition that the Brazilian geopolitical formulations had in understanding the phenomenon of spaces and dispersed populations articulation. It affirms, therefore, that this area - geopolitics - contributed in original form to the founding principles of the Brazilian communicational thought, within the Latin American School of Communication.
