Abstract

Initial development of research aimed at analysing the development of disease cartography in the 19th century, the work focuses on the first global itinerary maps produced at the same time as cholera advanced towards Europe. Through the analysis of documents published in different editorial contexts, the article aims to highlight the role of the itinerary maps accompanying the early nineteenth-century treatises on cholera in the process of understanding the nature of the disease as well as in disseminating information to a broad audience.
