* Articular cartilage defects of the patellofemoral joint are a common source of pain in athletes as well as in the general population.* Consideration of different factors such as defect size and depth, patient age, and subchondral bone involvement is important in determining the best treatment option.* Recognition of the complex biomechanics of the patellofemoral joint is essential in ensuring positive outcomes when treating these lesions.
