Abstract

Abstract In this chapter, Taylor Cyr and Matthew Flummer talk with Carolina Sartorio about Frankfurt cases and the challenge they present to the principle of alternative possibilities (PAP) and the classical or traditional view of free will. They then discuss an objection to Frankfurt cases called the dilemma defense: either the agent in the Frankfurt case is determined to act or not. Either way seems problematic for the defender of the Frankfurt case. They then discuss one of the main responses to the dilemma defense. They conclude by considering the significance of Frankfurt cases beyond the challenge they present to PAP.
