Abstract

Hypertension (high blood pressure) is known to affect at least 37% of the UK population (Primatesta et al, 2001); it can be symptomless until it causes organ damage. The key aim is to detect and treat hypertension prior to any organ damage occurring. There is a glossary at the end of the article which provides definitions of words you may not be familiar with.
