Abstract

By the courtesy of the author the present writer has been enabled to see A. Rosenqvist's paper before publication [I]. Since he has been independently pursuing the same subject, it is thought that a brief account of his work, only sufficiently detailed to help others wishing to try the methods, may usefully supplement her paper. Two of the methods tried were already known and proved unsatisfactory. A new method has been developed which solved the immediate problem and nlay have a wide application. In 1956 a large number of wooden artifacts were excavated by Dr. Dcsmond Clark at Kalambo Falls in Southern Rhodesia. These are the only known wooden tools of the Lower Paleolithic period and one of then1.has been estimated by De Vries, using the radiocarbon dating nlcthod, to have an age of 53,000 years.
