Abstract

AbstractThe European steel industry faces the challenge of transformation to climate neutral steel making over the next decades. A combination of hydrogen‐based direct reduction of iron ore with melter and chemical usage of steel mill gases is discussed. This transformation path allows to reach the climate goals economically with minimized effects on production network and steel quality, additionally providing sustainable feedstocks for the chemical industry.
