Abstract

Between 120 K and room temperature carbon monoxide is molecularly adsorbed on top of the metallic atoms. A shift of the ν C-O vibration, mainly due to dipole interactions, is observed as coverage increases. At 600 K a new species is observed on the surface: the β -CO which corresponds to a molecule totally or partially dissociated.
