Abstract

Wetland between Turia and Jucar rivers is a wide plain area with piezometric level near surface. It caused a large number of springs and lagoons, that were covered from time to time by farmers to make rice fields. Now, we have only some little body waters between fields. This study is an approach to knowledge of these ecosystems. Samples were taken from 40 springs around the Albufera Natural Park (Valencia, Spain). Morphology, physical and chemical characterization was studied. Results show waters with high conductivity, high level of nitrate, and low level of ammonia and phosphorus. These springs are ecosystems oligo and mesotrophic while the Albufera is an hypertrophic coastal lagoon.
