Abstract
1. 1.|An injection of capsaicin into normal young rabbits resulted in a preference for a cooler environment, signs of increased heat loss, and a suppression of the overall metabolic rate. 2. 2.|Body temperature declines with the preferred temperature, despite brown fat activation. 3. 3.|The response is greatly reduced after short-term desensitization, although the spontaneous motility, temperature selecting behaviour and body temperature appear to be normal.
