Abstract

In this paper, a hybrid optimization technique based on analytical and two heuristic methods is developed and applied to determine the optimal allocation of shunt capacitors into distribution systems, aiming to minimize the total power loss and energy cost. The developed technique is a combination of analytical technique based on Loss Sensitivity Factor (LSF) and two recent metaheuristic optimization techniques called Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA) and Sine Cosine Algorithm (SCA). LSF with a fuzzy logic controller is utilized to determine the candidate buses while the hybrid approach based on SSA and SCA (SSA_SCA) is used to find the optimal capacitor size. The performance of developed technique is investigated using 15-bus, 69-bus, 85-bus, and East Delta Network EDN 30-bus distribution systems. The results of developed technique are compared with those obtained by other comparative optimization methods. The results show the superior of developed technique in determining the optimal allocation of capacitor.
