Abstract

Candida auris is an emerging yeast which can spread easily in healthcare settings and cause invasive infections with high mortality associated. C. auris is very resistant to antifungals and some strains have demonstrated resistance to the three major classes of antifungal agents, a feature not seen before in other Candida species. Due to the high capability to persist for weeks in healthcare environments, C. auris can colonize patients perhaps indefinitely and is easily transmitted between patients causing healthcare-associated outbreaks, mainly in critically ill patients. The implementation of early and strict infection prevention and control measures is essential to curb the spread of C. auris.
