Abstract

Nigeria is the world’s largest black nation with over 145 million people. With an ailing power sector, the country has been unable to meet the energy needs of its population. As such, this paper investigates the impact a wind turbine will have on the country. An economic, environmental and social analysis was used to investigate the impacts a wind energy system can have on the nation. The results indicated that a wind turbine in Nigeria might be uneconomic but could be environmentally justified if the government puts environmental gains ahead of economics.
