Abstract

Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) (arterial thrombotic disease) remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally [1]. Major risk factors for ASCVD include a history of diabetes, blood pressure, blood lipids, and smoking status [2]. Persistent inflammation has been implicated in the pathogenesis of ASCVD. The American Heart Association (AHA) reports that most ASCVD events are avoidable by preventing risk factor development and control of traditional cardiovascular risk factors [1].
