Abstract
A study of the oligomerization of butadiene in the presence of 2-lithium hexane in a hydrocarbon medium has been made, using for the first time a calorimetric technique and a sealed reaction cell for the butadiene. Heats of the initiation and propagation reactions were found to be respectively Q in = 149±2 and Q p = 77± 2kJ/mole. In the interval of initiator concentration 0·04–0·18 mole/dm 3, the rapid initiation stage was detectable, with ratios of initiator : monomer (1 : 3)–(1 : 10) at 22–45°. Kinetic parameters of the initiation stage were determined from the thermal effect, and those for the propagation reaction were found simultaneously. The effective activation energies obtained for the initiation and propagation reactions.
