Abstract

Medico-legal issues are notoriously difficult to study because of confidentiality and legal restrictions. The article by McDougall et al (1) thus provides us with a rare and enlightening glimpse into medico-legal concerns that drive residents to seek advice from their national liability insurer. Through a content analysis, the authors identified four core themes that they suggest represent unmet knowledge gaps in postgraduate medical education: managing confidential information, complex care situations, academic matters, and patient safety incidents.
