Abstract

The present short review covers a new class of bioactive fully functionalized calix[4]arenes representing symmetrical bolaform amphiphiles associated with two identical opposing polar regions separated by a lipophilic semi-cylindrical core. Bioactivities (anticancer, antituberculosis, anti-infective) of these cyclic tetramers are due to their special features including the multivalency, higher water-solubility, higher permeability to the cell membrane, and unique spatial pre-organization of terminal polar functional groups in the bola-topology.
