Abstract

To investigate the effects of variations in temperature, humidity and radon concentration on radon detectors, a radon chamber with circulating air in a large-diameter pipe system was built. Here environments can be simulated in the following range: 2 Temperature: 5 – 25 °C Relative humidity: 20 – 90 % Rn-222 concentration: 10 000 – 100 000 Bq/m 3 Results from the first three measurements show that the response from all used detectors (Track Etch ® and Kodak films and ROAC detectors (activated charcoal)) are affected by temperature and humidity. All detectors still seems to be acceptable accurate methods for ground measurements if calibrated for its environment.
