Abstract

Abstract In-medium K ¯ N scattering amplitudes developed within a chirally motivated coupled-channel model are used to construct K − nuclear potentials for calculations of K − nuclear quasi-bound states. Self-consistent evaluations yield K − potential depths − Re V K ( ρ 0 ) of order 100 MeV. Dynamical polarization effects and two-nucleon K ¯ N N → Y N absorption modes are discussed. The widths Γ K of all K − nuclear quasi-bound states are comparable or even larger than the corresponding binding energies B K , exceeding considerably the energy level spacing.
