Abstract

1. The proposed method of calculating the curve of the free surface, velocities in the wall region, and pressures makes it possible when designing tunnels to take into account the characteristics of a free flow on a bend and to make the appropriate design decisions. 2. The limitations of the angles of bend of a tunel route, radius of curvature, and velocity set by the Building Code SNiP 2.06.09-84 are given regardless of the form of flow (free, pressure), which should be reexamined, since in the case of a free flow, flow separation of the through-going flow from solid boundaries is accompanied by a drop of the capacity, by a drop of pressure in the zone of separation, and by an increase of dynamic loads.
