Abstract

A technique is developed for calculating the output indicators of a drum brake mechanism (BM) with floating blocks based on the BM scheme, dimensional parameters of the components, friction coefficient in the contact areas of the linings and drive forces of the blocks. The technique allows at the design stage to determine the design parameters of the BM, their effect on the braking torque, the effectiveness of the blocks, the support reactions of the blocks and the maximum pressure on the friction linings. Examples of calculations of BM with one leading block and with servo amplification are given.
