Abstract

Atom-atom potential functions were used to investigate conformation states of PVA macromolecules. Without intramolecular hydrogen bonds macromolecules of iso- and syndiotactic PVA show maximum conformation possibilities among vinyl polymers of the type -[-CH 2-CHR-] n -. Seven regular conformations of the chain framework are possible both in iso- and syndiotactic polymers. With the formation of intramolecular hydrogen bonds in addition to the variation of conformation sets of stereospecific PVA chains, the number of possible conformations decreases suddenly.
