Abstract

The quantum dynamics of non-dissociating diatomic molecules in intense laser fields is investigated using the Floquet method. The time-displacement propagator over the first optical cycle is calculated using the first-order Magnus approximation in an intermediate representation. An application is made to rotational excitation through the upper states. Good agreement with numerical calculations is obtained, except for strong fields near the resonant frequency.
