Abstract

In this paper, we report the first study about the synthesis of CaMoO4 nanocrystals using the sonochemistry method at room temperature, characterization, and cytotoxic and genotoxic assay by Somatic Mutation and Recombination Test (SMART) using the Drosophila melanogaster fed with the calcium molybdates nanoparticles. The structural characterization by X-ray diffraction and Rietveld refinement confirm the tetragonal structure (I41/a) as the only phase for CaMoO4, with lattice parameters a = b = 5.229 Å, c = 11.442 Å and unit cell volume 312.97Å3. All vibrational modes characteristic of tetragonal phase (C4h6) were identified in the Raman and Infrared in Near Region by Fourier Transform (FT-NIR) vibrational spectroscopy. Scanning Electron Microscopy by Field Emission (FE-SEM) image of CaMoO4 nanoparticles exhibited a spherical shape with size particle from 50 to 250 nm. Although, were observed that, the agglomerates of nanoparticles results in mesostructures (∼6 μm). In the genotoxicity and cytotoxicity assay by SMART with the CaMoO4 nanoparticles in the survival and recombination, was confirmed that these materials are not toxic and genotoxic in the concentration from 1.565 to 100 mmolL−1 in the presence of Drosophila melanogaster.
