Abstract
Adequate intakes of calcium and vitamin D are necessary to prevent vitamin D deficiency or increase of plasma parathyroid hormone (PTH) level caused by vitamin D insufficiency. According to the National Nutrition Survey in Japan, 2001 by Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, Japan, the average of calcium and vitamin D intakes have not met their RDA at 1-2 ages, and a low calcium intake was observed during adolescence. It is important to know the adequate intake of vitamin D to compensate the low calcium intake in Japanese children.
