Abstract

Abstract Na-Ca and Na-Mg binary and Na-Ca-Mg ternary exchange isotherms have been determined in zeolite A. The effect of temperature and normality of the solution phase on the exchange equilibrium has been studied. Standard free energies, enthalpies and entropies have been calculated from the binary isotherm data. The binary isotherms have also been determined in samples of zeolite A and X gels as a function of crystallization time and the standard free energies of exchange have been calculated. The kinetics of the binary exchange reactions have been measured in these amorphous gel samples and compared with the kinetics in the corresponding crystalline zeolites.
